The Faculty of Law was established as a department in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the main Campus in September 2004 with a total number of 27 students.

The faculty was housed there for one year until August 2005 when it was given autonomy and permanent premises. The Faculty of Law has a similar mission like that of the University. This is an integral part of the development strategy seized with the positive responsibility of thoroughly educating lawyers in the theory of Common law and Islamic Law (Shariah) to ensure that they rise above narrow professionalism and become significant members of the educated community in Africa.

The Faculty of Science (FOS) is one of the six faculties at the Islamic University in Uganda.

The faculty was established in 1994/95 academic year to offer Diploma and Degree programmes in natural and applied sciences. FOS started with only 2 degree programmes; BSc Education and BSc Hons. Currently the Faculty has seven departments with eighteen academic programs at certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels and also one school of nursing and a Centre for Vocational Training (VTC).

Faculty of Education is the pioneer faculty of the Islamic University in Uganda together with the Faculty is Islamic Studies and Arabic Language.

The faculty started in 1988 offering one degree programme i.e Bachelor of Arts with Education, with an enrolment of only 40 students. The aim was to produce Graduate Teachers that can teach at secondary school level in both Science and Arts subjects.

In 1990, a Bachelor of Science with Education degree programme was started. In 1996, the following departments were established:-

  • Educational Management and Administration.
  • Educational Psychology
  • Foundations of Education
  • Curriculum and Instruction

This Faculty was established in 1995 just seven years after Islamic University in Uganda had been established with three undergraduate degree programmes i.e. Bachelor of Social Sciences Combined (BSS), Bachelor of Arts Combined (BA) and B.Sc. Mass Communication. The Faculty has since introduced many other programmes and these programmes provide tremendous opportunity for career advancement and development.

The mission of the faculty is to extend the frontier of knowledge through its taught programmes and research. More information regarding our undergraduate and postgraduate studies can be found in our faculty Handbook. It contains detailed information on the various course structures on different programmes offered in different departments in the Faculty. These departments include Department of Political Science, Geography, Economics and Development Studies, History, Languages, Literature and Linguistics, Mass Communication and Social Work and Social Administration. This is a guide to our lecturers in the Faculty in the implementation of curriculum i.e. learning and teaching, assessment etc. It is basis for enhancing teaching quality and ensuring good practice and consistency in the learning and teaching processes. The programmes offered in the faculty were all accredited by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
